Top Picks

In a job search, you may still be working and time is short. Making the time you spend searching nonprofit job boards efficient, we voted and found our top 3 picks. So, if you can’t search them all, at least use these.

1. Idealist

An iconic nonprofit job board is Idealist.org

The nonprofit job board, Idealist.org, has become a standard for many nonprofits to post their positions. And since posting a job on Idealist is not free, you know the nonprofit is serious about finding the right person.

What We Like

  • Ability to save jobs you like
  • Apply directly on Idealist.org
  • Resume bank for employers
  • Color coding for work location types
    • Onsite
    • Remote
    • Temporarily Remote

What We Don’t Like

  • Listing salaries is not required
  • Location type is missing “Hybrid”

2. LinkedIn Nonprofits

Yes, LinkedIn is a nonprofit job board. We’re talking volume here.

Wait, what?!?! LinkedIn is not a nonprofit-only job board. You’re right. But, LinkedIn has all the other boards beat when it comes to the sheer volume of nonprofit positions. When writing this article, LinkedIn nonprofit jobs resulted in 84,404 results.

Sure, not all of those results are for nonprofit organizations, but that means they include for-profit positions in companies and roles that work with nonprofits. That could be a sweet spot for some folks.

PRO TIP: Be sure to follow up and apply directly to the prospective employer with your resume and indicate you applied via Indeed if you did. The Indeed direct apply option is notorious for being too minimalistic in employer Applicant Tracking Systems.

What We Like

  • High volume of positions available
  • Ability to save jobs you like
  • Employers profile search
  • Filter location types onsite, remote, hybrid

What We Don’t Like

  • Listing salaries is not required
  • Not nonprofit specific
  • Location missing “temporarily remote”
  • “Easy Apply” applications look terrible in employer ATS

3. National Council Of Nonprofits Job Board

The National Council of Nonprofits job board has a monster list of nonprofit positions

Ok, so this job board is not going to win any prizes for design and usability. It’s a little clunky to use and doesn’t have many of the bells and whistles you might be used to today. But, the one thing it has going for it is the volume of nonprofit-only positions it maintains. We’re talking an estimated 10,000+ positions. Wow!

What We Like

  • High volume of nonprofit jobs
  • Many positions have salaries listed, but not all

What We Don’t Like

  • Listing salaries are not required
  • No “See all” or default search option
  • Positions open in bew tabs by default
  • Once in a category list, no filters for location, etc.
  • Lack of filtering across all listings

BONUS – Ministry Employment

Ministry Employment nonprofit job board

If you are looking to get into a Christian nonprofit ministry, Ministry employment is a staple of job boards currently. Sure, ChristianJobs.com is great but Ministry Employment has more non-pastor roles available from its organizations.

What We Like

  • Ability to save jobs you like
  • Resume bank for employers
  • Required Travel is a field employers can populate

What We Don’t Like

  • Listing salaries is not required
  • Navigating between positions is slow
